this has been unbelievable so far. the first night in cleveland was a lot of fun; we were the only band that played, but people seemed to dig it and we sold a few things. enough to get us gas to toledo and back, which is rad. people kept asking us to make sure we come back through, which we were going to anyway but definitely are now.
toledo was weird. the space itself is totally sweet. it’s a really great infoshop, and they have some grand plans for it. apparently they’ll have everything from a greenhouse to a bike co-op to a barbershop when they’re done. no one was around when we showed up. in fact, we were alone for about an hour. then a few people came around, but no one talked to us at all. we were lucky enough that they let us make ourselves dinner with some of their food, and we made sure we did our dishes, but it was a very insolated group. we had fun playing, even tho not a lot of people stuck around. we started breaking down after the set, and i ran upstairs to ask someone something to find that they had all disappeared. we had heard something in cleveland about how all they do there is get fucked up, and i’m afraid that’s totally what happened this time around. we drove back to cleveland feeling good about how we played but a little bummed out about the show itself.
luckily, our friend haley went to toledo with us and called up our friend keith about a show tonight at tower 2012. he totally hooked us up, so we played a sweet food not bombs benefit in cleveland. the kids here are amazing! there was a lot of dancing and kids seemed to be pretty into it. i’ve never seen that much dancing for any band i’ve been in or known. unfuckingbelievable. the drummer of the last band grabbed me and john and told us we ‘know how to do it.’ which is really sweet, if a bit vague. this band northern spy from akron played earlier, and they were good, and they want us to come through and play their house at some point. if we had a free day this tour we’d hit it up, but our only free day won’t work for them. ah, well. another excuse to come out this way again.
keith is in a band called teamsters that played tonight. they were fucking sweet. total flipper vibe. they’re coming through rochester soon, they said, and i’m stoked to play with them. sweet dudes, too.
it’s been great hanging out with our friends in cleveland [and making new ones!]. shannon and haley are great great great people. so far, we’ve hit the public market and done some record shopping and bonded hard over all sortsa stuff. tomorrow is looking like we’re gonna chow in little italy, then hit some museums with shannon and the boy she nannies for. he’s hilarious, but a bit violent, as many four year olds are. derek and i tried out some radical parenting shit today with him and one of his friends, telling them how sweet books are and how fucking stupid violence is and how it doesn’t matter if someone else thinks you look weird as long as you’re comfortable with yrself.
speaking of which, we all played shirtless tonight, and i in shorts. totally the way to go. however, it’s been the way i’ve gone for a couple days now, and i haven’t showered since sunday morning, so my feet are fucking filthy and i probably smell pretty fucking rank. i’ll shower tomorrow morning, likely.
kent tomorrow night. sounds like it’ll be sweet. our friend who set it up is stoked on it. then we’ll be on our friend haley’s radio show live on thursday, playing some songs and shooting the shit for a while. let you know more on that when i know more on that.
we’ve discussed a few times how we don’t know how bands play and then rage. all we want to do after a set is go the fuck to sleep. which is what we’re all doing now.
goodnight, folks. we love you very muchly, as always.
josh/goons.
